Speedy Flow for accessibility

When typing wears you out, speak

Hand or wrist pain, dyslexia, a motor disability, or just too many hours at the keyboard: with Speedy Flow, you say what you want to write, and clean text appears in the app that's open on your Mac.

You say“um, hi Claire, I won't be able to make it Thursday, no actually Friday, can we, um, move the meeting”
It's writtenHi Claire, I won't be able to make it Friday. Can we move the meeting?

Illustrative example: hesitations and the “no actually” correction are taken into account.

Fewer keystrokes.
Just as many words

One key or one click to start, your voice for the rest. Emails, messages, documents: you speak naturally, Speedy Flow writes.

Every day

Voice to text,
at your own pace

What Speedy Flow changes when the keyboard takes effort. Speedy Flow is a dictation tool: it doesn't replace medical advice or accommodations suited to your situation.

Start a dictation

Three ways to start,
pick yours

Whatever is most comfortable for you: hold a key down, press once, or click.

  • With ⌥ Space, you don't need to hold any key while you speak.
  • Sounds, on by default, mark the start and end of each dictation.

Speak naturally

No need for
perfect sentences

Hesitate, correct yourself: just talk the way you usually do. The “ums,” repetitions and sentences you fix along the way are removed; punctuation and capital letters are added. You focus on what you want to say, not on typing.

  • If you change your mind mid-sentence, “no, actually Friday,” the text follows your latest version.
You say“add to the list, um, bread, milk, and, and some apples”
It's writtenAdd bread, milk and some apples to the list.

Less repetition

One word,
the whole text

Snippets insert a full block of text from a keyword: say “my address” and your full address is written out. The dictionary keeps names and rare words spelled right; words you correct after a dictation can be added to it.

Meetings

No more taking
notes live

During your video and audio calls on your Mac, Speedy Flow transcribes the conversation, then writes meeting notes with a summary, decisions and action items. A floating notepad shows the key points, updated every two and a half minutes.

  • Always let participants know before you transcribe them.

What Speedy Flow doesn't do

  • No full voice control. Every dictation starts and ends with a key press or a click. Speedy Flow isn't meant for navigating your Mac or clicking by voice.
  • No offline use. Transcription happens online: you need an internet connection.
  • Mac only, for now. Mac with Apple silicon (M1 and later), macOS 13 or later. iPhone, Apple Watch, Windows and Android versions are coming soon.
  • Not a medical tool. Speedy Flow doesn't replace professional advice or the assistive technology suited to your situation.

FAQ

Good questions

Can I dictate without holding a key down?

Yes. Press ⌥ Space once to start, then a second time to finish. You can also click the mic in the floating bar, then ✓.

Do I need to speak slowly or enunciate?

No, just speak naturally. Hesitations and repetitions are removed. In a noisy place, turn on voice isolation and choose your mic in the settings. The microphone guide has more tips.

Which apps can I dictate into?

Anywhere you can type text. The app asks for Accessibility access so it can write where your cursor is; it doesn't read what's shown on your screen.

What if the text isn't right?

You can undo the rewrite, run the transcription again, or find every dictation in your history.

Is it free?

The free version includes 4,000 dictated words per month and 3 transcribed meetings. Pro gives you unlimited words and meetings. See pricing.

Where do my dictations go?

Your history and notes stay on your Mac. The audio is sent encrypted, only to be transcribed, and is not kept afterward. Privacy policy.
