Get started with Speedy Flow
From installation to your first voice dictation, then on to meeting notes: everything you need to turn your voice into text on your Mac, step by step.

Speedy Flow turns what you say into polished text in all your apps, and takes notes in your meetings. Installing takes a minute, setup a few more. Follow this guide in order: by the end, you'll be dictating everywhere on your Mac.
1. Download and install Speedy Flow on your Mac
Speedy Flow runs on Macs with Apple silicon (M1 or later), on macOS 13 or later. iPhone, Apple Watch, Windows and Android versions are coming soon.
- Download the SpeedyFlow.dmg file with the Download for Mac button.
- Open the downloaded file, then drag the Speedy Flow icon into your Applications folder.
- Open Speedy Flow from the Applications folder (or with Spotlight). If macOS asks you to confirm opening an app downloaded from the internet, accept.
2. First launch, in three screens
The app's interface is in French for now. On first launch, Speedy Flow walks you through three screens:
- Welcome: click « Commencer » (Get started).
- Three quick permissions: the app introduces the microphone, Accessibility and the fn key setting (detailed just below). Click « Continuer » (Continue).
- Your profile: enter your first name, then sign in with « Continuer avec Google » (Continue with Google) or with your email. You'll get a sign-in link (or a 6-digit code): no password to create.
Your account is used to apply your plan. Transcription is included: there's no AI key or AI subscription to set up.
3. Allow the microphone and Accessibility
macOS will ask for these permissions the first time you dictate: just accept. You can also check them anytime in System Settings.
Microphone
So the app can hear your voice. The mic only turns on when you ask it to. Path: System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone, then turn on Speedy Flow.
Accessibility
So the app can paste text wherever your cursor is, in any app. Speedy Flow doesn't read what's on your screen. Path: System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility, then turn on Speedy Flow.
Set the fn key to “Do Nothing”
To avoid conflicts with the fn key, open System Settings → Keyboard and set “Press fn key to” to Do Nothing.
4. Your first voice dictation: the fn shortcut
Three ways to dictate. Pick the one that fits your habits:
To try it, open Notes, an email or Slack, put your cursor in the text field, hold fn and say a sentence naturally, hesitations and all. Release: the sentence appears, without the “um”s, with punctuation and capital letters. Speedy Flow even handles your corrections, like “no, make that Friday.”
Every dictation goes into your history. If the text isn't right, you can undo the rewrite, run the transcription again, or find the dictation in your history.
5. 50+ languages, detected automatically
Speak your language: it's detected automatically. You can even switch from English to French in the same sentence, and the text keeps up. If you always dictate in the same language, you can set it in Settings (« Réglages ») → Dictation languages (« Langues de dictée »).
6. The Dictionary: your names, always spelled right
Client names, brands, acronyms, technical terms: add them on the app's Dictionary (« Dictionnaire ») page. They guide speech recognition and are always spelled correctly from then on. And when you fix a word after a dictation, Speedy Flow remembers it and gets it right next time.
7. Snippets: one phrase, the whole text
A Snippet links a trigger phrase to a full block of text. On the Snippets page, create “my address,” for example: when you say it, your full address is typed out. Perfect for a signature, a booking link or a canned reply.
8. Speeds and Transformations: the right tone in every app
A Speed is a writing style for each app. The same dictated message becomes a polished email in Mail, a direct message in Slack, or something casual in WhatsApp. Transformations apply a rewrite to your dictations: cleanup, professional tone, concision… Speeds and Transformations are included in the Pro plan (see pricing).
9. Set up meeting notes and meeting transcription
Speedy Flow transcribes your meetings and calls, then writes the meeting notes: summary, key points, decisions and action items. No bot joins the call: the audio is captured on your Mac. The settings are in Settings (« Réglages ») → Meetings and calls (« Réunions et appels »).
- Detect meetings and calls: Speedy Flow notices when Zoom, Teams, Google Meet, FaceTime, WhatsApp… is using your mic and offers to transcribe.
- Participants' audio (« Son des participants »): click « Autoriser » (Allow) and accept the macOS “Screen & System Audio Recording” permission. Without it, only your mic is transcribed.
- Calendar: click « Connecter » (Connect) to see your upcoming meetings. Speedy Flow reads the calendars added to your Mac (iCloud, Google, Outlook…) and can start on time for the meetings you've scheduled.
- Transcribe without asking: turn it on if you want transcription to start by itself. Otherwise, Speedy Flow offers it in the floating bar. You can also hit « Transcrire maintenant » (Transcribe now) at any time.
During the meeting, a floating notepad shows your notes and key points live. Afterward, ask questions (“Who's sending the quote?”), pick a meeting notes template, or export it to Markdown. It's all covered on the meeting notes page.
10. Tips to dictate faster
- Think your sentence through, then say it in one go. Hesitations are removed, but a clear idea makes for clear text.
- Speak naturally, without slowing down or over-enunciating. For better sound, read our microphone guide.
- Voice isolation (« Isolation de la voix »): in Settings, it reduces background noise using macOS voice processing.
- Startup: turn on « Lancer Speedy Flow à l'ouverture de session » (Launch Speedy Flow at login) so dictation is always ready.
- Floating bar: choose its position (left, center, right) or drag it wherever you like. You can also mute the start and end sounds.
Frequently asked questions
The fn key doesn't start dictation. What should I do?
Check that Speedy Flow is allowed in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility, and that “Press fn key to” is set to “Do Nothing” in System Settings → Keyboard. In the meantime, ⌥ Space works too.
Why does the app ask for Accessibility access?
To type the dictated text wherever your cursor is, in any app. Speedy Flow doesn't read what's on your screen.
Do I need an internet connection?
Yes. Transcription happens online, in 50+ languages. Audio is sent encrypted, only to be transcribed, and isn't kept afterward.
What's included in the free version?
4,000 dictated words per month and 3 transcribed meetings, in all your apps, with the Dictionary and Snippets. Upgrade to Pro for unlimited words and meetings: see pricing.
Where are my dictations and notes stored?
On your Mac: history, notes and transcripts. We don't keep any copies. Details in our privacy policy.
